ALARM REPORT ON ACCESS AND CLOSURE

Something to keep an alarm over the next 48 hours
A way to take a picture
A way to take notes

Set an alarm to go off at some arbitrary time, day or night, in the next few days. Try to choose a time without foreknowledge of where exactly you’ll be.

When the alarm goes off: look around wherever you find yourself. Identify something human-made in your environment that either offers or restricts access to its operation (mechanically, digitally, spatially, or otherwise). What is the mechanism by which it offers access or enforces closure? Who is included and excluded? Why?

Take a picture of it and take notes on your reflections about it. (You don’t have to print these out – if they’re on your phone, for instance – but bring in your device or some way to show the image to the class and have access to your notes about it.)
